INDIANAPOLIS, IN — Axis Architecture + Interiors, now in its 25th year, continues to grow. Recently, the studio hired three new members: Mitchell Archer, Architectural Associate; Sean Morrissey, Project Architect; and Sydney Peña, Junior Interior Designer.

Archer comes to Axis by way of the University of Kentucky, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in architecture. As an undergraduate, Archer served as the chapter Vice President for the American Institute of Architecture Students and as the conference chair for the 2019 AIAS Midwest Quad Conference. Archer said he was drawn to architecture because of its ability to influence how people experience the built environment.

“I believe my designs are typically bold, whatever the setting,” he said. “I enjoy applying geometries to places where they do not already exist.”

Morrissey is a Fishers native and an Axis alumnus. He worked at the studio during his undergraduate years, then between undergraduate and graduate school. During that time, he contributed to — among other projects — the Julia M. Carson Transit Center, 6 E. Washington St., and Wayne Township Fire Department - Station No. 82. Morrissey received a Master of Architecture from Clemson University in 2014. But before he returned to Indiana, he worked at firms in Denver and Seattle.

Peña graduated from Purdue University in May 2019, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in interior design and minors in construction management and building information modeling. Before joining Axis, she served as the President of Purdue’s IIDA/ASID chapter and received the Student of the Year award from the International Interior Design Association. Peña said she particularly enjoys working on corporate, retail, and housing projects, but she appreciates the opportunity to create unique, timeless looks for every client.

“What’s most rewarding about being a designer is that satisfying ‘ahh’ moment after you see your vision come to life,” Peña said.
