“The investment AZCO has made in our community is strong, and they represent the strength and tenacity the community was founded on,” Mayor Jake Woodford said during a ribbon-cutting at the office. “We’re looking forward to seeing AZCO continue to build strength for themselves, for their clients, and for our community.”
The downtown headquarters provides room for growth as AZCO continues to expand into new markets nationally, including renewable energy and battery storage, while also growing its presence in more traditional markets like gas generation, pulp and paper, and oil and gas.
The firm’s prefabrication business continues to grow as well, as AZCO prepares to expand into dedicated space for electrical prefabrication near its current metal prefabrication shop outside Appleton.
In the last three years, AZCO’s total employee count, including craft and contingent workers, has grown by 82 percent, and the last year has seen the union construction subsidiary of Burns & McDonnell have its largest revenue year on record.

“While this downtown move was necessary to accommodate our growth, it also demonstrates our commitment to the Appleton community,” said Earle Cianchette, AZCO President and CEO. “Though we are a national construction company, we’re proud of our Appleton roots, and it is in that spirit that we continue to give back to the local community wherever possible.”
In addition to being a longtime member of Appleton Downtown Inc., AZCO supports several local schools with initiatives focused on careers in construction and prefabrication, as well as local civic and arts organizations.
AZCO, established in Appleton in 1949, joined the Burns & McDonnell family of companies in 2016. Today, AZCO employees are among more than 13,500 engineers, construction and craft professionals, and others who design, build, and deliver critical infrastructure globally.
“The future of Burns & McDonnell relies on safe, efficient direct-hire construction services, and the acquisition of AZCO was and will always be a major step toward that future,” said Ray Kowalik, Burns & McDonnell President and CEO. “I will always be proud to be a part of it.”
