ACEC Virginia Recognizes Dewberry with Five Engineering Excellence Awards

FAIRFAX, VA — The American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) Virginia chapter announces the winners of its 2022 Engineering Excellence Awards. Among those recognized was Dewberry, a privately held professional services firm, headquartered in Fairfax, Virginia.

The Alaska Statewide Mapping project received the Pinnacle Award and the Grand Award. The 10-year project covered more than 600,000 square miles of land mass, which brought the state’s maps into accordance with the U.S. Geological Survey’s national mapping standards.

The Virginia Beach Comprehensive Sea Level Rise and Recurrent Flooding Analysis and Planning project received the Honor Award. In support of Virginia Beach’s efforts toward becoming a more resilient community, Dewberry assessed the vulnerability and flood risk exposure of city assets and critical infrastructure for existing and potential sea level rise scenarios. Using this impact assessment, the firm developed planning, policy, and engineered flood risk reduction measures to mitigate short- and long-term risks.

The University of Virginia Brandon Avenue Green Street and Utility Infrastructure project also received an Honor Award. As part of a 14-acre redevelopment, Dewberry provided a new signature street design with a bioretention median that treats the district’s stormwater needs. Additionally, the firm provided central utility infrastructure to serve six new buildings, including chilled water, storm sewer, sanitary sewer, domestic water, low temperature hot water, a medium temperature hot water to low temperature hot water conversion hub, electrical ductbank, and communication service.

The Warrenton Southern Interchange project for the Virginia Department of Transportation earned a Merit Award. The $19.5-million design-build project included a grade-separated interchange in Fauquier County where U.S. Route 15/17/29 intersects Business U.S. Route 15/17/29 to the west, and Lord Fairfax Drive to the east. Dewberry teamed with Shirley Contracting Company, LLC on the project.

“It’s a tremendous honor to be recognized among such an esteemed group of engineering professionals,” said Dewberry Executive Vice President Dave Maxwell, PE. “I am so proud of all the work and dedication our team puts into delivering impactful solutions to their clients and communities.”
